As women we have the literal capacity to shed old As women we have the literal capacity to shed old layers and begin again. We do this monthly for decades. We know how. So don’t be afraid to shed what you’ve outgrown. Don’t shrink yourself to fit skin that doesn’t fit you anymore.

Trust that you can step into your most powerful self. To live your one best life. And even if you are afraid to take that big step. Deep breath and do it anyway.

Here with you as you rise. Shine. Grow. Glow.
And if you want to use a comment to declare what you’re stepping into or manifesting next! I’m so excited to hear and also soon share what I’m growing into, too. 💕 read with 🎵on if you can
Not all mamas make sounds during labor - some find Not all mamas make sounds during labor - some find it more supportive to keep all their energy and focus inside and on the breath. But, for many, sound is a powerful way to move through labor and birth. Here are ways that sound can help:

Moaning - one of the most common sounds a laboring mama will make - from outside the birthing room sounds a lot like the sounds you hear during sex. The key to moaning is to send that vibration down into your pelvis with a low, deep tone - truly as low as you can go, and to keep your jaw loose - which correlates directly to a loose and relaxed yoni. If you hear yourself making high-pitched tones, which are more up in the throat, remember to go lower and deeper with your sound.

Deep, audible breaths - these help release muscle tension, which can help you dilate and also rest and replenish between contractions. Breathwork can also be used during pushing to ‘breathe baby down’ rather than ‘bearing down’ (which often leads to tearing).

Affirmations/mantras/visualizations - Whether you think these to yourself or say them out loud, affirmations can help keep you focused and confident. Some of my favorites are:
🌸My baby and body know how to birth
🌸Every rush is one step closer to meeting my baby
🌸I am doing this
🌸My cervix opens up like a flower, I release

Crying - While you may not envision yourself crying during labor, I’ve seen tears of release, fatigue, and raw emotion. Tears can be a powerful release that facilitates opening and releasing fears and obstacles. Don’t be afraid to let your tears flow.

Roaring - birth is primal; it’s no surprise that many of us get on all fours, “snake” our bodies, and roar, summoning all the strength from our being, and calling on the power of women past and present to bring baby earthside. Remember to bring that roar into deep tones, rooted deep down in your body.

Grunting - often a sign that baby is low or on perineum causing an urge to push.

Trust your instincts, mama. Release your baby with whatever sounds your body naturally wants to make as you welcome your baby into the world. xo.

It's not news that chemical straightening products It's not news that chemical straightening products are associated with increased cancer risk - we already knew that breast & ovarian cancer risks were increased.

A new and very large study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, of 34,000 US women, ages 35 to 74, found a strong association between chemical hair straightener use & uterine cancer.

All women who use these products are at risk, and because of higher rates of use (60% of those who reported using hair straighteners were Black women, even though they comprised only 7% of study participants), Black women are the most impacted - with the highest rates of uterine cancer.

The use doesn't even have to be 'that' often. Frequent use was defined as > 4x/year, which led to a two-fold increased risk. Of note, hair dyes were not associated, at least in this study, with increased cancer risk, though brunette and black-colored dyes do increase the risk of allergic reactions.

The role of endocrine disruptors is well-established yet there are almost no standards in place to protect girls and women from them - including in our beauty products - which we may want to use - but may equally feel pressured to use to meet cultural beauty expectations.

We also have to look squarely at the impact of racism on Black women's health. Societal obsession with European beauty standards creates workplace pressure and even demand for Black women to change natural hair- creating pressure for BIPOC women to use hair straightening products.

While calling for safer products without dangerous chemicals is essential, it's not likely that product safety is going to change soon. We must be activists for our own hormonal health via the products we use. All of us in positions to do so MUST demand changes in any workplace aspects that pressure or require women to conform their appearance and thereby feel obligated to use dangerous products.

To read the full study head to the link in bio and to learn more about how to avoid endocrine-disrupting chemicals, grab a copy of my book, Hormone Intelligence. Be sure to share this with your friends and loved ones so that we can all make the most informed choices for our health.
From a young age, we’re taught to be “good gir From a young age, we’re taught to be “good girls.” We’re told to be polite, to be nice, not to interrupt, and to say thank you- even when we don't mean it. As little girls, we're best "seen not heard" and told that if you question authority or speak your mind then you're bossy, too loud, or even a bitch 🙄.

And while we know this is all nonsense as adults, so many of us still hold onto these beliefs and habits and they cause us to remain silent at board meetings, apologize to the other person when they cut us off in the checkout line, and remain silent in the doctor's office when we know something is wrong.

It's good girl syndrome, and it can seriously affect our health and even our safety as you'll learn in my latest On Health podcast episode, Being a Good Girl Can Be Hazardous to Your Health, is for you!

In the episode, I share:

🤲 An essential lesson in self-advocacy I learned in 3rd grade that has and continues to serve me powerfully in my life and work
🤲 The science behind the "fawning" stress response and how so many of us do it without even noticing
🤲 Good Girl Syndrome- what is it, why we develop it, and how it can even be damaging to our health
🤲 Why it's good for your health to be a "bad patient"
🤲 My experience being the "good girl" in medical school and how that led to a major shift
🤲 How channeling my inner "bad girl" saved my patient's life
🤲 The power of the Wonder Woman pose and the tools necessary for women who are struggling to advocate for themselves
🤲 And so much more!

This episode is a MUST for every woman who needs empowerment to finally get her doctors to listen, to speak up to her boss, or to embrace her own inner Wonder Woman, power, and confidence.

Be sure to listen using the link in bio and tag three women who you want to share this with. Let's turn our inner Good Girls into Inner Badasses.

And remember to drop your biggest takeaways in the comments, I love hearing your thoughts, inspiration, and aha moments.
